Dear Rotarian,
WELCOME to the Fayrotales
newsletter
RI President Bill Boyd in February Rotarian tells of the
potential effect of what we may think of as small
deeds, on people to whom the deed may provide help
and hope for a better future. He cites the example of
Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh who visited a small
village there and found individuals working each day
just to pay debts they incurred buying bamboo
material for stools they made. He paid off the debts
of the entire village with just $27 and made it
possible for these people to make a profit, repay his
loan and escape their endless cycle.
Today Rotarians are involved in
more than 60 microcredit projects around
the World following Yunus' example.
"We may think we are only helping to equip a school,
supply a clinic, or build a well for a faraway
community. But in truth, what we are doing is helping
to build a better, more stable and more peaceful
future."
Think of the small amount many of us gave for the
Thai water project recently and the benefits those
Thai kids may gain from our donations.
