Thanks
to our club historian, Roy Rom, for
a quick look into what has made our club the best! Here's a peek:
Oct.
21, 1952 [ 50 years ago] The Fellowship committee will set up 12
tables at the next meeting, one for each month of the year. Rotarians
will sit at the table according to the month they were born. This
way each member will develop a better acquaintance with those having
the same birth month. [Club membership was about 110 that year]
Oct.
25, 1962 [40 years ago]
The Youth Committee will sponsor a special father and sons meeting.
"Too often we neglect our sons in the interest of others. If
you only have daughters, you can come to the meeting and look over
the
field and get a line on future prospects." Tom Jefferson was
in charge of the event. He urged Rotarians to notify him of the
number of guests each memeber brought. thus avoiding the embarrassment
of not having enough food for all.

26: ROD Jim
Boyd introduced
Jan Holden, Ed.D., who discussed
how near death experiences transform people in very constructive
ways.Reports from people who've had such experiences seem to indicate
that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience. 10-40%
of people who are resusicated report having a near death experience,
such as a floating sensation, out of body state, ability to see
thru physical objects, 360 degree vision, a lighted tunnel, reunions
with deceased loved ones, etc. During a near death experience, as
people review the events of their lives, they report being able
to feel the event both from their perspective and from the perspective
of those who are at the receiving end of every action. Feeling one's
actions as both the doer and the receiver can change the personality,
values, behavior, and spirituality of those who have such near death
experiences.
Oct 3: ROD
Bucky Jones introduced Dr.
Benjamin Akande
Dean, School of Business and Technology,
Webster University,
who spoke of his 23-year journey across
America. He has been seeking understanding of what makes this "God's
Own Country," and found one answer in the television program
Sesame Street: "Life is not about how different we are, but
the differences we can make." Thank you, Dr. Akande, for reminding
us all how blessed we are.
